WOW Retreat at Beulah Beach 2016

Approximately 85 ladies gathered on the relaxing campus of Beulah Beach Conference and Retreat Center for the 21st annual Women of Worth Retreat. A warm welcome was waiting at the registration desk, as the Canton-Massillon WOW committee members greeted the guests, assisted with room assignments,  and distributed information.

From the very first session on Friday evening, Mrs. Eileen Blowers had our attention with her dramatic presentation of the topics! We were refreshed with her practicality and humor as she reminded us of how a lady is to  conduct herself as she embarks on the journey of life. Following the opening session, we were treated to pizza, snacks, and plenty of time for mingling and fellowship.

Saturday morning brought sunshine and balmy temperatures, creating a picture perfect day at this lakeside location. After a hearty breakfast, we made our way to the auditorium for two morning sessions. Mrs. Blowers so effectively reminded us that God can take even the darkest circumstances of our lives and use them to build our trust in Him. His grace is completely sufficient for whatever we face.

Following another delicious cafeteria meal, Mrs. Charlene Wolford shared her story of God’s grace for a journey she never dreamed her family would take. She reminded us of the importance of the church family and the role we are to play in wrapping our arms around the hurting.

Saturday afternoon “free time” was again a highlight of this retreat. It provided the opportunity for sightseeing along the lake, shopping in a quaint nearby town, or resting in one of the many lounge areas on the campus.

The Isbell Family provided us with a fantastic concert just after the supper hour on Saturday evening. Eric and Rachel, along with their children Autumn and Kaleb entertained and ministered to us with instrumental and vocal numbers. Their love for one another, music, and the Lord was evident throughout the performance. It was a blessing for us to have them back at the WOW retreat again this year!

Many would agree that the Sunday morning worship service Is a special and sacred time. This year was no exception. Valorie Quesenberry led us in worship, Mrs. Blowers once again spoke from her heart, and the ladies were given opportunity to share. One after another, they stood to thank God for his faithfulness to them through the many seasons life brings.

After visiting over Sunday lunch and saying our good-byes, we left the 2016 retreat with full hearts and refreshed spirits.  Thank  you, Lorena Glick and Massillon-Canton Women of Worth, for providing this wonderful opportunity. We are already looking forward to the 2017 retreat!

Ginger-Cinnamon Apple Crisp

Nonstick cooking spray
3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Dash salt
6 Tbs. unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
3/4 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
3 lbs. Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 8 cups). Thinly slice apples so they get done in the allotted baking time.
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional)

Lightly coat a 13X9X2 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray; set aside.

For the topping: In a large bowl, whisk together the 3/4 cup brown sugar, flour, the 1 1/2 tsp. ginger, the 1 tsp cinnamon and salt.  Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Stir in the chopped walnuts and pecans; set aside.  In a very large bowl, whisk together the 1/2 cup brown sugar, cornstarch, the 3/4 tsp ginger and the 1/2 tsp cinnamon.  Add the apple slices.  Gently toss the mixture until apples are coated. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish.  Sprinkle the ginger-nut topping over the apple mixture. Cover the baking dish with foil. Bake the dessert in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.  Remove the foil and bake for 25-30 minutes more or until top is browned and apples are tender.  Let cool for 20-30 minutes before serving. If you like, serve with ice cream or whipped cream.  Makes 8 servings

IHC. Dayton. 2016.

Here is Lorena's review of our national Women of Worth meeting:

The IHC Women of Worth service was a wonderful time in which we felt God so graciously visit us!

Our prelude and special singing were inspired by God as Sonja Vernon led us in Worship.

Joy Budenseik challenged our hearts as she described how each of us has a story and we are so precious to God.

A heart felt thank you to all you dear ladies who came to worship with us in our Women Of Worth service on Wednesday morning. It warmed my heart to see many old friends again as well as many new ones. It was a great IHC!

God has blessed us with a great national committee who loves God and who want God's best for Women of Worth. Thank you, ladies, for all of your hard work.

May we continue to hold the torch high as we move into another year of serving Jesus.

A special thanks goes to the Beach City Bible Methodist youth group for putting together all 600 of the packets for the IHC rally.  A job well done!

Central Indiana Women of Worth Retreat

The King’s Daughter
Central Indiana Women of Worth Retreat

On March 18, 2016, one-hundred fifty ladies gathered in Greenfield, Indiana for the 2016 Central Indiana Women Of Worth Retreat. The venue at ICHA Campground was decorated as a royal palace.  A silver tiara and  princess wand was at each place setting, accompanied by a fresh red rose in a purple bud vase. Eight white pillars were uniquely decorated with lighted tulle swags connecting, them. A deep red velvet backdrop enhanced the decorations and set the stage for the retreat theme, "THE KING’S DAUGHTER."  The atmosphere was royal, indeed!

The lovely table settings

The Gospel Heartstrings

The retreat was launched with a Royal Banquet of roast beef with all the trimmings, after which The Gospel Heartstrings presented a lively bluegrass sacred concert. To make the evening even more special, we were highly honored by a unique guest. All who had registered were daughters of the King by adoption, but our guest, Stella (Yemi) Babatunde, was indeed a genuine King’s daughter, a princess by birth; her father was the King of a provincial region in Nigeria. She grew up in her father’s court with many servants and maids, and it was a joy for us to hear her remarkable story of the coming of missionaries into her village and her conversion. It was an great honor to have Princess Stella; her presence seemed to enhance the royal  atmosphere.

Princess Stella with Sister

Dressed  as a PRINCESS, our featured speaker, Lorena Glick, was used  by God in a very special  way. She inspired and challenged us to stay “in the castle” and be the princess God intended each of us to be. During a special prayer time, God’s presence filled the “palace.” Every heart was touched; no one left as she came.  A variety of needs were met as we lingered in God’s presence. Our faith was renewed, and we left, inspired to claim the privileges and blessings of being the King’s daughter! Many are still talking about that Royal week-end!                                       reported by Barb Brock

Valuable in Any Form

- Valorie Quesenberry
Daisy, Flower, Hand, Connectedness, Wood, Table, Luck

Do you value life? do you?

I always thought I did. I have Christian parents who taught me that God created all things. I gave birth to four children  and loved nurturing them as infants and beyond. I worked as a volunteer counselor at Sav-A-Life- East in Birmingham. Alabama where we tried to uphold the gift of life and offer the adoption option to women in crisis pregnancies. I was gung-ho in the fight against abortion and euthanasia. I voted for pro-life candidates and prayed that America would turn back to valuing life from conception to natural death.

Then, in 2013, I started working with developmentally delayed students. And my pro-life convictions were challenged.

For the severely developmentally delayed, the phrase "quality of life" is a cruel standard. They have no quality of life from a purely earthly standpoint. Many of them cannot speak. Many of them wear diapers. Some of them have uncontrolled drooling. Some are uncooperative or have untidy habits and some even have violent behavioral outbursts. And then there are a few who are confined to wheelchairs and require round-the-clock nursing. The ones who can interact often have difficulty maintaining focus and completing their thoughts. These human beings are in a condition in which they are unable to engage independently with their world. They need constant care. These are the kinds of babies that Planned Parenthood and its cohorts would try to prevent from coming into the world. These are the lives that are "expendable" - the ones with Down's Syndrome and genetic abnormalities and developmental issues that can be seen in the womb. These are the children who may never play patty-cake or speak their first word or run to give mom a hug. To many, these are just inconvenient lives.

But these are people in whom burns the divine spark of life. These children are precious in His sight. Their twisted bodies and fragile minds remind us that sin came into the world to destroy God' s beautiful creation of life, but their guileless smiles and childlike perspective nudge us toward simple faith in the One who will one day "make all things new." Though they bear witness to the principle of decay and death at work in our world, they also remind us that healing awaits in that perfect land "that is fairer than day." The unpleasant aspects of their daily care give us a chance to serve, to be the hands and feet of Christ in a very practical way. Just like the Good Samaritan who would not pass by someone in need, we can always find a way to extend the love of God to those who are hurting and helpless.

Is it easy? No. Fun? Not usually. Comfortable? Uh-huh. But it's a real-life way to prove that you are pro-life. For me, it is easy to gaze softly at the picture of an unborn baby and declare myself a lover of human life. It's far more difficult to maintain that conviction when life is wrapped in a human bundle that isn't quite so fresh and cuddly. But we are not asked to judge the packaging. We are only called to respect the gift that resides inside, the very real, valuable person whom the Creator has known from before his or her conception.

As you do not know what is the way of the wind,
Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child,
So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.
 Ecclesiastes 11:5, NKJV

No, it was never God's design for human bodies and brains to be impaired. But somewhere in the mix of His sovereignty overseeing the fractured DNA of our human genetics and the divine purpose He has for every living soul, there is a plan for these who are near to His heart. They are not accidents to Him. They are valued and wanted and purposed for glory someday.

I am certain that, this week, you will encounter someone whose quality of life is in question by society - whether unborn, developmentally delayed, old and feeble or maybe standing on a street corner holding a sign, at the mercy of poverty and addiction. I ask you to join me in purposely remembering that God is the Giver of all life. Let's  ask our Father to fill our hearts with love that sees beyond the unpleasant circumstances to the person contained inside. Then, if possible, let's be channels of life-valuing grace. Let's love, pray and serve. For when we respect the gift, we are honoring the Giver.

For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.

 Psalm. 36:9, NKJV

Today, January 17, is Sanctity of Human Life Day,
